Prevalencia de sobrepeso y obesidad en la población pediátrica de un colegio de Encarnación, año 2010

Obesity is a global public health problem, the notable increase in both developed and developing countries made it possible to name her as the epidemic of XXI century. Children and adolescents are not immune to this problem and has joined the everpresent problem of malnutrition. Our country according to the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare have reported a prevalence of overweight in children and adolescents obesity is 14% and 20%. The study aims to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity in a pediatric population and that there is little information related to our region. Study participants were students in three shifts from 1 to 3 grade of secondary education from CREE, the target population corresponded to 20% of the accessible population.
We determined the body mass index and to find risk factors were surveyed. The results gave a prevalence of overweight in adolescents full 16, 4% and 5.4% obesity among the risk factors found that 32 % have a family history of obesity and physical activity as more than half of young people made little or no physical activity.
We conclude that the prevalence of overweight is higher in the study population but lower the percentage of obesity in them.
