Abstract

In Paraguay, virtually all undergraduate degree programs at both public and private universities require the completion of a final degree project (TFG), thesis, or dissertation for graduation. This article presents an analysis of the life history of a participant named Eddy, an undergraduate student. The objective is to reveal the experiences lived during the thesis-writing process, specifically regarding academic, social, and emotional dimensions. The study is framed within interpretive and hermeneutic paradigms, employing a narrative-biographical approach focused on a single-case life history. The findings indicate that the key themes and most significant impacts reported in the academic dimension are dehumanization and loneliness manifesting as a sense of working in isolation without clear guidance while the emotional dimension involves the onset of stress and anxiety, accompanied by physical symptoms such as chest tightness, migraines, and general malaise. Resilience, which enables the reinterpretation of experiences, proves to be a fundamental factor in gathering the strength to continue the task. Social support is essential for successfully reaching the goal. The study concludes that the thesis is not merely an academic product but a far more complex journey that engages the individual in their entirety.
